The fire curtain effectively insulates against radiant heat according to standard requirements for up to 120 minutes. The fire curtain in the EI version may be used in escape routes, but not as an escape route through the fire curtain. It closes upon a signal from a fire alarm or stand-alone alarm system. The fire curtain is a passive protection that is open during the day and only closes when there is a signal from a fire alarm or a power cut. It is common for the fire curtain to complement a normal industrial door mounted on the opposite side and used for daily opening and closing. A gravity closing so-called failsafe motor ensures that the fire curtain closes controlled by its own weight in the event of a fire alarm signal, regardless of access to power or not.
